Gunnar Bjercke is a polyvalent Norwegian artist based in Edinburgh; known for blending dance, physical theatre, music, and martial arts into a distinctive and dynamic performance style.
Currently, he's performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with his fifth Fringe production: A Bear Called Wojtek — a playful physical comedy set in a sauna, inspired by the true story of a bear enlisted in the Polish army. Previous Fringe shows include Toscana (2019), Prometheus Unbound (IO’s version) (2021), Julius Caesar Must Die (2022), and Be Kind to Animals (2023).
Over the past eight years, Gunnar has worked with major platforms including the BBC, HBO, Netflix, Sky TV, ITV, and Adidas. He starred as the lead in the short film Leith Walk, a psychological drama that weaves dance into its narrative. His stage credits include productions with the National Theatre, Bard in the Botanics, Curious Seed, and a recent residency at Scotland's National Centre for Dance. Gunnar is committed to pushing the boundaries of traditional theatre, infusing his work with a touch of pastiche and panache.
Outside the theatre, Gunnar holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and recently won gold at the 2025 Caledonian BJJ Open. He also has a strong interest in teaching and sharing his experiences with others; Gunnar wishes to inspire what he believes to be a universal truth — everyone has an innate desire to make and create.
